LEAKED EMAIL: Clinton Team Convinced Obama Would Pick Her For VP In 2012

Hillary Clinton’s political team was convinced President Obama would pick her to be his vice president for his second term, according to the latest batch of secret emails from Mrs. Clinton’s time at the State Department.

Mark Penn, the Clintons’ longtime pollster and adviser, in an evaluation of Mr. Obama’s State of the Union speech in 2010, said it was “overall pretty good” but said the president “seemed angry.”

He also said people were coming to realize “the Obama flaws like inexperience I was trying to point out were on the mark and were appropriate.”

And Mr. Penn predicted Mrs. Clinton would end up as running mate if Mr. Obama went for a second term.

“Only way for him to win second term is to ask you to be VP- he will realize that after midterms,” the adviser said in a Jan. 28 message to the then-secretary of state.

FLASHBACK: Hillary Clinton Said She Would Travel To Louisiana Flood Site, But Has Yet To Visit 7 Weeks Later

FLASHBACK: Hillary Clinton Said She Would Travel To Louisiana Flood Site, But Has Yet To Visit 7 Weeks Later

Hillary Clinton is calling on her supporters to donate to victims of devastating flooding that hit Louisiana this month and says she plans to travel to flood-affected areas at a later date.

"The best way to help Louisianans affected by these terrible floods is to make sure they have the resources they need today," Clinton said in a statement released by her campaign Monday morning.

"I am committed to visiting communities affected by these floods, at a time when the presence of a political campaign will not disrupt the response, to discuss how we can and will rebuild together."

Donald Trump, Clinton's Republican rival in the presidential race, traveled to Louisiana on Friday. President Barack Obama is scheduled to come here to meet with local leaders and view flood-ravaged areas on Tuesday.

Hillary Clinton Thinks Climate Change Causes Hurricanes

Hillary Clinton Thinks Climate Change Causes Hurricanes

Speaking to supporters in Tampa, Hillary Clinton says climate change is “wreaking havoc on communities across America.” Clinton warns that Hurricane Hermine “is not the last one that’s going to hit Florida given what’s happening in the climate.” She says, “When it comes to protecting our country against natural disasters and the threat of climate change, once again, Donald Trump is totally unfit and unqualified”.

HILLARY CLINTON: “Another threat to our country is climate change. 2015 was the hottest year on record and the science is clear: it’s real, it’s wreaking havoc on communities across America. Last week’s hurricane was another reminder of the devastation that extreme weather can cause and I send my thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by Hermine. But, this is not the last one that’s going to hit Florida given what’s happening in the climate. […] If it affects people who lose their homes or their businesses that took a lifetime to build, it doesn’t matter to him. When it comes to protecting our country against natural disasters and the threat of climate change, once again, Donald Trump is totally unfit and unqualified to be our President.”

Obama Just Penned An Op-Ed On How The Next President Should Fix The Economy He Helped Wreck

Obama Just Penned An Op-Ed On How The Next President Should Fix The Economy He Helped Wreck

In an op-ed for The Economist on Thursday, President Barack Obama laid out his views on the shortcomings in the US economy and a way forward for the next president to improve the economy. He also vented some of his frustrations with the current political discussion of the economy.

In addition to touting the work he had done, Obama discussed four challenges facing the next president and ways that they can take on those challenges. The challenges were:

Slowing productivity of workers. Obama noted that despite amazing technological gains, the growth rate of productivity of American workers has been declining. Obama said that encouraging private investment through improving tax codes on businesses, priming the pump with public investment, and creating trade deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership would help to solve the issue.

Increasing income inequality. Obama noted that the top 1% of earners in the US now receive 17% of all posttax income, versus 7% in 1979. His solutions include raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans, engendering a sense of community among those at the top and bottom, and raising the federal minimum wage.

Declining labor force participation. Obama noted that 12% of prime-age men (25-54) are not in the labor force today, versus 3% in 1953. For women, this number has also increased, to 26% from 23% in 1999. Obama said wage insurance, a strong community-college system, and making reentry into the workforce from prison easier would help reverse the trend.
