On Thursday, CJ Pearson and Ryan Fournier, National Chairman of Students For Trump, released the following statement in response to the recent disavowal of GOP nominee Donald Trump by the Chairwoman of the College Republican National Committee, demanding her resignation.
“Alexandra Smith, Chairwoman of the College Republican National Committee (CRNC), put herself before her party and ultimately, before her country," they said.
In a tweet, Smith made clear that she was unable to support the nominee of the Republican Party.
"And for that reason," they added, "we are calling for her resignation. As a private citizen, we respect the right of Alexandra to support the candidate of her choosing, but in her capacity as Chairwoman of the CRNC, we see it as her moral obligation to support the GOP nominee."
According to the College Republican National Committee's website, they said, "it is the mission of the CRNC to 'elect Republican candidates, support the Republican agenda, and become the future leaders of the conservative movement.' Due to the discordant opinions of Chairwoman Smith and the CRNC as to who to support, doubt rests upon the ability of the College Republicans to perform two crucial tenets of its organizational mission: elect Republican candidates and support the Republican agenda.
